Annie
I was a gymnast for 15 years as a kid which transitioned to breaking ('breakdance"), house dance, Crossfit, weight lifting, and Yoga as an adult. A laminectomy surgery (T7-T10, L3-L5) in 2010 from a staph infection left my spine unstable and my core weak. I was alternating between being anxious or depressed, would burn my skin easily in the sun, and had poor sleep habits.I thought I knew how to move my body well, but a pinched nerve from Crossfit in early 2018 left me reeling for several months. I tried 2 different physical therapists, a round of Rolfing, chiropractic adjustments, and massage therapy. All gave a little temporary relief but none could address the root of the problem.
I started at Functional Patterns MN in late 2018 and was intrigued by the complexity and detail of the positions and movements, as well as the humility it brought trying to coordinate the movements and feel tensions in the proper places. While my brain was completely overwhelmed with the process, I noticed my body felt light and buoyant after sessions. Comparing that to Crossfit classes where my ego was fed but my body felt heavy and drained. Nerve pain completely gone within months with FP principles Since fully investing in Functional Patterns principles I am calmer, tan easily and sleep well. My digestion has improved and feel more connected overall to my body. I completed Human Foundations in 2019, HBS 1 in 2021 and HBS 2 in 2023. I appreciate being able to help others improve their lives using FP principles.
